Why we've shifted over to Substack...

Sian & Philippa from NYX here. We lead a collective of experimental vocalists and electronic artists based in London. With roots in diverse musical and creative disciplines – from opera and choral traditions to sound design, visual arts, and experimental electronics – our aim is to bring together a community of artists united by their commitment to exploring new sonic frontiers.
As an interdisciplinary community-based project, our most interesting work happens in the corridors, at rehearsals, at off the grid residences, on late night phone calls or in the dark depths of our DM’s. A product-driven relationship where the priority is to tell you about releasing new music and send project announcement newsletters to you doesn’t really represent what we are doing or the relationship we want to have with our audiences.
We also know that a lot of our audience and community are also artists, trying to make sense of this all. The connective tissue of NYX, is that we are all seeking out a more interdependent way of working and being. We come together so that we do not need to work it out alone. We create music that we use to soothe ourselves when we need to be held, or that we get the scream and shake our bodies in synchronicity when we need to let go.

We’re interested in exploring what it might mean to communicate in those moments between, when we are deep inside the studio world, gasping for air. Or when we’re feeling elated after performing in the weird and wonderful spaces we’re lucky to be invited to. So we’ve shifted over to Substack, as we hope that the format allows to share more honestly and more regularly including exclusive music, visual scores we’re using on through new projects, field recording of singing in nature together, mixtapes & playlists, and dive deeper into how we make and create with one another.
Why subscribe?
All updates & written posts will be available to all for free, but subscribers will have access to exclusive music & free downloads of our NYX releases. It’s a wild time to be creating art under capitalism, so we appreciate the intention to subscribe & support now more than ever.
We’ll share updates as and when they come - not on any specific schedule, just in rhythm with the flow of our projects and lives.
